These dental kits give you all sorts of options for weeding in varying sizes and shapes!
A safety pin is great for weeding those extra small pieces because the point of the pin is very fine and small. Plus these are cheap and plentiful so you will probably always be able to find one when you need it.
Tweezers give you a lot more control than a safety pin might. These are great for extra delicate weeding.
An x-acto is perfect for those fine pieces that did not quite cut correctly. Or for a bigger piece in a delicate design. Cut the piece into smaller pieces to make sure that every detail is perfect.
Use a lamp for extra light for amazing visibility while weeding.
Use the tool that was designed specifically for this purpose…I know a shocking idea right?
This one is also designed for weeding and is great for those big pieces that need to be weeded out.
Another great tool for helping you see the finer details. Grab a light box so you can see exactly where the cut lines are and remove the excess pieces.
Fine Point Sharpie & Pen Holder
So I use a fine tip sharpie with a pen holder first and select sketch pen. Without unloading, I then use flocked HTV as my settings and put the blade back in. Having the marker helps see what you’re weeding!
Another great kit with a lot of nice sharp and pointy options that are great for weeding.
My age may be showing but sometimes those small details can be hard to see. This magnifying glass and stand will help you see every detail!
What tools do you use for weeding?
Happy creating!

Kimber + Dawn
Hi Kimber and Dawn,
GREAT info about things to use for weeding – I do already have a dental pick I use for various projects.
I have two other suggestions. One is a tool I was introduced to when working in a printing shop where they cut vinyl. It was a “weeding tool” – just basically looks like a bit of dowel (about 1/2 inch wide) with a pin sticking out of the middle. The other was my own discovery and it is THE BEST – a sewing seam ripper. I like how it has the sort of hook in it that helps move things forward after the sharp “ripper” part has lifted the item from the matt.
Have a super creative week!
Blessings,
Barb
